Good news! Windows 7 is compatible with your years old PC according to theWindows 7 required specs. Microsoft has surely an edge over Apple by making the much anticipated OS backwards compatible when Apple’s new version of OS X Snow Leopard will only be supported by the newer Macs run by Intel. Now, you can shed the glumness away as your 9years old PC can also run Windows 7.

The required minimum specs include 1 GHz Processor, 1 GB RAM, and 16GB of free hard disk space. Back in 2000, Intel had hit the 1GH processor mark. Therefore, your 9 years old PC can run new version of Windows.

Both of the systems are launching soon, and close to each other. Despite the backward compatibility issue, there are certain other things to be kept in mind. Apple will sell its new OS for $29 whereas shipping starts this September. Microsoft, on the other hand, will put a heavy price tag according to reports, and Windows 7 will be hitting the shelves in late October. Snow Leopard wants only 5GB of free disk space in comparison to 16 GB and 20 GB required by Windows 7. Both systems have their pros and cons, and what to choose solely depends upon the users.
